An Olympic Park, A Festival Site
The Olympiapark is the broader 132-hectare complex around the Olympiastadion in Berlin's Westend, planned by Werner March in 1934–36 as the Reichssportfeld for the 1936 Summer Olympics. It encompasses the Olympiastadion, the Maifeld parade ground, the Glockenturm bell-tower, the Schwimmstadion, the Hockey Stadium, the Waldbühne amphitheatre and a network of avenues lined by Hanns-Braun-Straße.
After post-war use by the British military, the park was reactivated as Berlin's main outdoor sport and event campus. Since 2015 it has been the home of Lollapalooza Berlin, which uses both the Olympiastadion bowl and the surrounding park grounds for its multi-stage layout and has grown to a festival attendance of around 70,000 per day.
